Subject: How to identify my Motherboard?

Hi folks,

I'm trying to figure out what motherboard is in my Sony PCV-RX470DS (a P4
1.5Gb). Can't find the info on the Sony web site. I used Belarc Advisor, it
reported it as ASUSTek WMT-LE with Award ACPI bios rev 1004. The only
labels/markings I found on the board itself were
"MS1181172-MBL040-B05-00257" and "PS2KBMS" and "08004603006D6078".
Can anyone help me to identify this mobo?
TIA
Xekester

Hi sisoft sandra is superb at ID'ing a motherboard or
anything else and offers a wealth of information about
your hardware. if you are running xp only use the latest
version as the earlier ones arn't xp compatible. its a
free app and you can find it by doing a search in
www.google.com for sandra.
cheers

www.crucial.com
They have a free prog that identifies mobos as well.

That's the trouble with most PCs now - lack of info, my
mobo manual told me everything I wanted to know, apart from
the make and model of the actual mobo itself!

Matt and the others who responded, Thanx a lot....
That Sandra tool is great, I'll be fooling with that quite awhile!
Unfortunately, no joy on the original problem... how to figure out which
mobo an "ASUSTek WMT-LE" really is.
Thanks again Folks,

Looks like an ASUS P4T-M manufactured for Sony. Look at the specs on this
board and see if they are the same.

Manda,
Judging by the small picture and the written specs at the URL you provided,
I think you nailed it. Thank You.
I'm still trying to download the manual from the ASUS site... They seem to
have some problems with their links.
Thanks again to all who responded. As I get better at this stuff I hope I
will be able to pass along such a favor to help others.

Xekester,

I'm no expert but don't count on that mobo being the
same! I've got a Sony Vaio PCV-RX1(UK) and have been
trying to track down which one it is also.

Apparently the mobos on the Sonys are specifically made
for them by Asus. I put a question to both Sony and Asus
and they said that it wasn't the same mobo - whether this
is true or not - hmmmm !

My reason for trying to find it is that I'm after a bios
update to get a Creative Audigy card to work without
rebooting my PC!
Paul.

Thanks for the heads up Paul...
Guess I won't really know until I get a better look at it (tightly packed
case! :)
How about it, any other Vaio-philes out there with better info?

What do you mean by not supported?

"allen" <am1212@juno.com> wrote

i should say 'not recommended'. sony support website only  references xp/home, when contacted by phone i was told  they do not know if xp/pro would work. was a bit surprised  but took it at face value since xp/home would work fine > for me.

If home will install then pro will too. They say that cause this way they only have to train there phone techs on home version. Pro will most likely work but they say it's not reccommended cause they don't want to do phone tech support for it, not because it won't work with your machine.
