Nine Movies Every Runner Should See

"Hey, look what they're showing on the trid!"

Spawn - The animated director's cut (series one)
If any medium can do the world of Shadowrun justice, it has to be animation. Spawn shows everyone just how dark the city sprawl can be. Complete with inner struggles, demonic creatures, and damn cool fight scenes, this series brings out a desire to make all of your gaming sessions this good. If you liked the original, then watch the second season. It deepens the plot, and gives you further glimpses of how the behind the scenes executives do their dirty work.

The Fifth Element
Yeah, I know that this is far future sci-fi, but its strengths are too good to pass up. Not only does it deliver great action, but also has an interesting story line. The battles can be used to enhance any brawl, and the aliens, as well as humans, are great for anyone looking to take on a new personality.

Enemy of the State
Surveillance, surveillance, surveillance. This movie makes you want to hide in the closet all day, just so you could have a little privacy. If you are looking for enhanced security systems, look no farther. If you are looking to see just how powerful a corp is, this is your movie. If you want to know just how hard it can be to escape from one of those corps who is out to get you, guess what?

The Matrix
Hmmm, need I really say more?

Desperado
Gun fights, fistfights, and ummmmm, oh yeah, more fights. Cinematic killing at it's very best describes this movie's main selling points. If you are wondering what a runner with every gun in the rulebook might be like, check out this guys guitar case.

Pulp Fiction
This is assuredly a Quentin Tarantino film. I guess the guy just likes to kill people in his movies, because there are plenty of guns in this one. However that's not why it made the list. The two hit men have such great interaction that it's hard not to like them. They illustrate that you don't have to slaughter everyone in the room to have a good time, maybe to make a living though. Rent this one if you want to develop your character into a more dynamic person, or into a Bad Mother Fragger.

Sneakers
This movie defines what stealthy running is, or should be like. The security systems and computer hacking all mirror some of the more common runs Shadowrunners are faced with. In addition, the main characters are working as a team throughout the movie, and each one of them has a distinct personality. This movie is so close to what Shadowrun is, all they would have to do is make one character an ork, and no one would know the difference. See this one, it should be a source book, or source movie.

Mission Impossible
Again, this movie displays Shadowrun like qualities. It has an extremely complex plot (it took me a couple viewings to finally get it) and exhibits a team effort to dodge security and steal the desired computer data.

EVERY SINGLE James Bond movie
Ok, so maybe I'm biased, but just because there my favorite, doesn't mean that they shouldn't make my list. How can you go wrong with action and woman? If you need more, there are plenty of gadgets and spectacular stunts, followed up by great character interaction to keep you busy.
