TUNBRIDGE WELLS v HAYWARDS HEATH

February 24th 2002

Tunbridge Wells 34

Haywards Heath 10

This game was one of the toughest matches Wells have played for some time.

The Haywards Heath pack put up a tremendous display with some tough tackling and determined play throughout the first half. Some big hits by both sides were a feature of the half evenly shared by two well-drilled sides.

Tunbridge Wells scored two trys through forwards Chris Clemow and Sam Stone following some concentrated forward pressure. Several times Wells were foiled by some resolute defending. Heath always making good ground themselves when winning the ball from the constant Wells attacks. The half-time score saw Wells leading 10 points to nil.

The second half saw the introduction of Nelson to the Wells left wing. His pace and strength brought him two excellent trys outstripping the Heath defence on both occasions. Despite this set back Heath rallied and were rewarded when their tireless prop crashed over from close range.

An excellent break by Wells scrum half Adam Maltz saw him link with the backs, and fly half Zac Alexander unselfishly let in centre Luke Giles to score under the posts.

Heath rallied again and good play from their fly half, who tackled endlessly all game, set up their second try.

Wells were not finished and Clemow added his second try of the game to cap a fine personnel display. Stone and Jack from the Wells forwards were stars as were all the lads from both sides in a fine display of hard attacking rugby.

All at Tunbridge Wells would like to thank those that set up this excellent league. The boys have played in some great games and we as coaches have met some top rugby friends.
