Cranbrook vs Brighton at Brighton

26 : 7 to Brighton

7/10/01

The home side held the advantage in more ways than one as Cranbrook were weakened by calls up to the Kent U-14 squad causing them to lose 3 key forwards plus the captain / fly half who selfishly took a holiday. Consequently Cranbrook needed to play backs Charles Neate, Alex Manning and Oliver in the pack. What a performance those three boys put in together with their pack colleages. Often beating a strong Brighton pack.

However in the Brighton pack good performances from Tom Piessel and Joe Mitchell at lock meant that Brighton competed well.

The scoring started when one of the Brighton coaches Mark Kinsella scored a magnificent try the day before for the Brighton Calypso team - more of that elsewhere.

In the mean time Nick O'Conner-Smith scored the first try for Brighton U13s which was converted by Charles Foreman. This was followed by a strong try from Will Dreger also converted by C. Foreman Esq. Carl Smith (second cousin once removed with fairy lights on, of the afore mentioned CF) scored a great third try and finally - Joe White used his strength to cross the try line for a try which was converted by Carl Smith - who had a good all round game at full back and wing.

Cranbrook rallied well as James Catt scored a very well deserved try - which was converted by Ben Pilbeam.

A special thank you to Justin Mashford of the Kent Society who came down from Docklands to referee the game today. A good performance from the ref.
