About the organization
SUOSSIL is a fraternal organization for GLBT people. It is sort of like the FreeMasons, Elk, etc except for GLBT people. The purpose of the organization is to be a social and charitable organization in which GLBT people gather to socialize as well as to raise money for GLBT charities and organizations in the GLBT community.
About the lambda
The lambda is a symbol adopted by the GLBT rights community along with the rainbow. It represents the Greek letter "L" and thus can symbolize liberation. It the scientific symbol for "change" specifically with regards to energy. It is an ancient symbol for unity and balance. In ancient Rome it was the symbol used to represent enlightenment or more precisely "the light of knowledge that is shed from the darkness of ignorance". Thus the lambda is an illustrious, radiant symbol and thus the reason for its choice as a symbol of our organization.
Members
Members of the organization are referred to as Lambdas. Membership is open to all GLBT persons that meet the requirements of membership as stated in the bylaws of the organization and each individual chapter of the organization. Each chapter is independent and is referred to as a "lodge".
