Svein Martin Holtet bought this 1954 Mercury back in 1997. The car was at the time a total basket case. Anyway, Svein wanted to drive his car as soon as possible and he managed to put the car together in only three months. Even if the car is good looking, Svein does not consider the restoration completely fullfilled and several improvements will be done later.

A previous owner had done some poor rust repair on the car, which Svein had to redo to meet his standards. Also the electrical system on the car was a mess, so it was replaced.

This car is well optioned, and features power brakes, power steering, power windows and power seat.

Svein has replaced the original 256 cu.inch motor and the 3-speed standard transmission with a Ford 292 cu.i and a Ford-O-Matic transmission.

The paintjob were done home in the owners garage. The color looks like Siren Red, which is a very nice color.
The car is running well, but Svein is planning to tear it apart and restore it all over again. But for the time he just want to cruise and enjoy his 1954 Mercury Monterey Convertible as it is.

Mercury built 7.293 convertibles back in 1954. Svein´s car is probably the only one in Norway. I haven´t seen anyone in Sweden. How many is it left in the whole world ?

I wish Svein good luck with his rare car and I´m sure he will take good care of it..

In the year 2003 on the "100 years anniversary of Ford" meet I met another man from Norway ho have three 54 Mercury´s. One fourdoor partcar. That one hi drives to the meet. One twodoor hardtop under restoration. And of course hi have one convertible that hi purchase from Sweden several years ago. That one is also under restoration. What a lucky man.
