PARAMOUNT UNLEASHES DS9, DECLINES SHATNER
With the successful release of all
seven seasons of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" on DVD in
2002, Paramount has announced the next series, "Star Trek: Deep Space
Nine" will have all seven seasons released in 2003. The format
and packaging will remain similar, if not identical to that of NEXT GEN.
In related news, William Shatner
reportedly approached the studio about the possibility of doing a
director's cut of his film, STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER in the same
method as Robert Wise and Nicholas Meyer did for the first two films.
Sources close to the actor report the studio decline his offer without
giving reasons. Sounds like it's time for a letter writing campaign.
Anything would make Trek V a better film.
FOX BUILDING SERIES SUCCESS
As more and more TV series get the
DVD treatment, Fox Home Video has been absolutely on a tear, with no less
than 5 series slated for release on DVD this year. We'll definitely
see the second season of "24," the start of "Married, With
Children" both seasons of James Cameron's "Dark Angel," the
second season of "Malcolm In The Middle," more
"X-Files" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
TRUE LIES ABOUT TRUE LIES?
One of the more interesting tidbits
to float down the pipeline from Fox involved a rumor that there will be a
2 disc special edition director's cut of James Cameron's TRUE LIES,
staring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This could not be confirmed as of
press time, but the source said it would be dependent upon Lightstorm
Entertainment's involvement. (That's Cameron's production company.)
But Cameron is still miffed at Fox for canceling "Dark Angel,"
and may not participate. On the other hand, all of Cameron's movies
(save LIES and TITANIC) have received special edition makeovers, and all
of them have been extremely well received. We'll keep you posted.
