Wow. These early tapes are just so bad-ass. And the sound is great (just a couple of tough spots) considering it was recorded 40 years ago, with no intention for release. "Death Don't Have No Mercy" is a guitar lesson. In fact, while the Gaslight tape is more a show-off of Dylan's great voice, this tape is highlighted by his guitar and harmonica. At least 10 of these songs are Woody Guthrie covers, so this is obviously in the midst of his Guthrie obsession. I'm surprised he took the time to learn "Talking Fish Blues" - one of Woody's longest and strangest! "San Francisco Bay Blues" is kind of rough, but has lots of charm and energy to cover for it.

Performed around the same time Dylan was recording "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan", this show clearly shows Dylan's brilliance, which would soon become legendary. The sound is perfect, as is the performance. Any critics that say Dylan can't sing should listen to "Rocks and Gravel". "Barbara Allen" is beautiful. What a cool tape.

Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash! A great boot of the two of them messing in the studio singing each other's songs and classic tunes too. Dylan doesn't know all the words and it's very informal. One of my favorite bootlegs I have. "Careless Love" is my highlight, though there are many.
