BULLETIN:
TWISTED KITES Has Left the Building!

It's been a great 3+ years on the air at WOWL, but my time there has come to an end. I am now onto bigger and better things, as I have moved to Norfolk, VA. I am thrilled to report that I am now the Assistant to the Director of Policy and Communications at PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. I hope that have had enthusiastic listeners, enthusiastic about the smorgasboard of music I've played on "Twisted Kites."

Please feel free to e-mail me in the future. I'd love to hear from my past fans!

Adios, everybody...

Hello, and welcome to my musical world. My name is David Perle, and my show is called "Twisted Kites." My show and I both debuted in the Fall '98 semester, and now you can hear me on Mondays from 12-2pm. (If you are not in the limited FAU listening area, you can listen to the station over the Internet via Real Audio through the station's home page.) What I play is "modern rock and its influences." I've been told by different people that I know quite a bit about the music I listen to, so I try to get some interesting information out over the airwaves about what I am playing. Song-meanings, circumstances behind them or the band/artist, etc.

Here is a list of some stuff you can hear on my show:

  • Phil Ochs
  • The Beatles
  • Nirvana
  • Chuck Berry
  • Little Richard
  • R.E.M.
  • Sonic Youth
  • The Animals
  • John Lee Hooker
  • Bessie Smith
  • Black Sabbath
  • Billie Holiday
  • Joan Baez
  • U2
  • Woody Guthrie
  • The Pixies
  • Bob Dylan
  • other great music
  • As you can see, my show houses a rather wide range of music. In short, I like to play good music. I like to play it, I like to listen to it, and I like to expose people to it. So, I'll see you over the airwaves!
(Well, I suppose I won't actually see you, and you won't see me either, but...
...what, are you waiting for me to finish the sentence?)

For the more mainstream bands I play, such as R.E.M. and Nirvana, I generally try to stick with more less mainstream and even obscure material. (Obscure particularly with the two bands I named, as I have much obscure material from both.) With my show I aim to air something different than what you get through larger, commercial radio stations. There's a lot more to music than what they play. Hey man, this is my show, I'm in control now!

Also, occasionally I like to prop myself up on my soapbox for a couple of reasons. The first is that I'm rather short, and need all of the extra height I can get. The second is because, well, I'm opinionated about a lot of things. I am not confrontational, though, so this gives me a good venue to spout off my views. Listeners are always welcome to call in if they disagree with what I am saying over the air. But don't worry, my show is primarily about music.

This now is my fifth year at FAU, and my third as a WOWL DJ...or any DJ, for that matter. I earned my degree in Communication in August '00, and am currently continuing on with an education in Political Science. E-mail me!
