I'm not gonna attempt a biography or filmography as there are plenty of sites to be found that are dedicated to this. The purpose of this page is to introduce and enlighten those unfortunates who think of Bette Davis as just "that wrinkly old duffer".
The best introduction would be to watch The Anniversary which is a wickedly
humourous bitchfest.
Anyway, here's a few film quotes:-
"I'll turn your skin to rags and wipe the faces of your children with them!"
"You belong to me. If I could stuff you, I'd put you in that cabinet over there with all my other beautiful possesions - and that's love."
"I have an aversion to anything that's repulsive."
"I want you to entertain me - get up and do something."
"Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy night."
"Everybody has a heart, except some people."
"I'll admit I may have seen better days, but I'm still not to be had for the price of a cocktail."
"Nice speech, Eve. But I wouldn't worry too much about your heart. You can always put that award where your heart ought to be."
"I don't ask for things I don't think I can get."
"I hope you die. I hope you die very soon. I'll be waitin' for you to die."
"What do you think I asked you here for - COMPANY?"
"Where you are I could spit in your eye with no strain at all."
"I could kill you!"
Joan Crawford: "You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this chair,"
"Life in Loyalton is like sitting in a funeral parlour and waiting for the funeral to begin. No, not sitting - lying in a coffin waiting for them to carry you out."
"I don't want people to like me - nothing pleases me more than when they don't like me."
"There's only one person that does anyone any favours in this town and that's the undertaker..."
"I never knew what hate really was until this minute."
"You dirty swine! I never cared for you - not once. I was always makin' a fool of ya. Ya bored me stiff - I hated ya. It made me sick when I had to let ya kiss me. I only did it because you begged me - ya hounded me, ya drove me crazy! And after you kissed me, I always used to wipe my mouth. Wipe my mouth!"
"It must be a grand feeling to get everything you want."
"I think I'll have a large order of 'prognosis negative'."
"There's no excuse for me. I don't deserve to live."
"Here we are children - come and get your lollipops..."
"I'd like to kiss ya but I just washed ma hair."
"A person in my position must be content with picking up a few crumbs of happiness from other people's tables."
"Happiness isn't a little cake which we can cut up to fit our appitites."
"I came into your house, my dear friend, and in your unhappiness, you reached out your hand for help, and in my loneliness, I took it. We have such a friendship that is given to very few."
