In the beginning... there was God. And in order that He should not float around for eternity, He created dirt to stand upon. And this pleased Him greatly, but soon He was bored and it was very dark.

And so He created lights which hung on tall trees and placed them around the dirt. And this pleased Him greatly, but soon He was bored and the dirt was very hard and disorganized.

And so He created grass to cover the dirt. He separated the grass into increments of 10 yards, drawing lines with chalk. And this pleased Him greatly, but soon He was bored and it was very quiet.

And so He took from the mountains a great rock and chiseled it into a bell. He hollowed it out and upon blowing through the hollow bell, a tone was sounded. This, too, pleased Him greatly. But soon, He was bored and there was no rhythm.

And so He took from the forest a great tree trunk and hollowed it out. Over the top, He stretched the hide of a dead water fowl and pulled it tight. With twigs, He struck the hide. And this pleased Him greatly, but soon He was bored and there was no one to appreciate the beauty of His creation.

And so out of the mountainside He created bleachers and filled them with people fashioned in His likeness so they could see for themselves how wondrous was His work. This pleased Him greatly for the people cheered and applauded His handiwork with great enthusiasm. But soon, it occurred to Him that His beautiful creation had no name.

And so He called it Drum Corps.

And the people He created adopted it as their own, making it bigger and faster and louder and more precise. They added the spinning of large tree branches as part of their celebration.

This pleases Him greatly.

Today He is content.

"When I walk off the field, knowing that I had just played my best show, knowing that the crowd was screaming for me and my fellow players...At that moment I realize that it was all worth it...I learned that all of my hard work and dedication paid off...determination was what it took to make it."
