Wayne Bennet once said in a news conference after a NRL game, "ah, no
comment mate". The Strikers would of wished that Tones only had that to say
after a disappointing game on Sunday. In a game marred by an excruciating
injury, which sent a shiver up everyone's spine when the skipper Once Touch
pulled up lame. He had just put the afterburners on for a through ball from his
younger brother of all people, when BANG! That moment that rocked everyone's
sleep on Sunday night happened, the groin had totally tore it's self to shreds.
There he was stranded, alone and getting laughed at, what else would the skipper
do (after a quick cry on the sideline)? He played on for his Mental Hospital in
true Awakenings style.
Tony was not happy after the game, he probably said as much after the
game on Sunday than he has ever said on the phone in all his life. "Fucken
6 on me", "wacked when I wasn't lookin", "chicken
roast", much faster than snow", "if you want a quick single just
say, cause I'll run like the wind" and all sorts of other great Tony lines
were coming out. The boys were aghast, normally it is Blinkers talking about his
goals or One Touch moaning at Blinkers for getting all the goals, or even Hoffa
telling of his glory days in the 1980's Ranfurly Shield era. But Tony was just
beside himself (I wonder if he realized how big his couser is from there?). It
took him a good 30 or so seconds to settle down. But once he did the boys could
reflect on a disappointing display of football, just 2 weeks out from the world
cup of all times.
I am sure the Strikers will be back on form this week as they take on
Lisa Blakies father and Count Homoginsed's team this week (Lyttleton). The
result for all you international fans out there was 3-1 to the UN.
Oh, some fella did brake his ankle for the other team, which meant all the
Strikers got to see an Ambulance. "Make your siren go!" "Make you
siren go!" "wooo ooooh, wooo oooooh!!" were the calls of delight
when the Ambos turned up to rescue the injured guy.

Nurse Norm
