BodyIsland: There're tons of other comprehensive health-and-fitness sites but few of these match the vibrance and topical relevance of BodyIsland. Besides daily news updates on everything releated to health and fitness, it offers plenty of useful tips on all kinds of problems you might have with body maintenance. There're six useful main sections -- 'Health: Orthodox & Alternative Medicine', 'Fitness: Training and Injuries', 'Weight Loss: Diet and Exercise', 'Nutrition: Healthy Eating and Balanced Diets', Relationships: Guidance and Counselling' and 'Female: Problems and Advice'. Topics discussed are wide-ranging -- everything from breast cancer to depression -- and the live chats with experts offer visitors a chance to talk about their problems anonymously. The main page is highly user-friendly with a general search, and if you want to be regularly informed of updates, you can sign up for a weekly newsletter.

Candlelight Stories: Yet another great site for kids that's not only a splendid storehouse of stories, cartoons and games but also encourages them to write their own tales and submit them for publication. The 'eBooks' section offers lots of free reads, while such 'Flash Games' as 'Seven Dwarfs' Diamond Mine Arcade' and 'Pinocchio Adventure' give age-old tales some new animated twists. There's even an audio books section where children can listen to narrations of stories like 'Puss in Boots', 'The Pied Piper' and 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. But make sure you have lots of memory to accommodate the downloads. Parents and teachers of pre-school and primary school kids can get into the act as well by guiding their charges through such activities as making cutout toys and eCards. The spelling machine game and the online picturebook at this attractively-designed site are also fun to explore.

Danamo's Marilyn Monroe Pages: There are no nudes photos here so don't waste your time if that's what you're after. But on the other hand, if you're looking for an exhaustive assessment of Marilyn Monroe as a pop-culture icon and film actress, you'll enjoy your visit here. There're lots of interesting downloads on offer, including an audioclip that has her singing "Happy Birthday" for JFK. And the links to the FBI's file on her and her autopsy report make for some fascinating moments. A filmography with brief summaries of the movies she appeared is also here, and you can view some of the many items on show at The Marilyn Museum by clicking on the museum link. You can even discuss you theories on how she died or ask a question on anything related to her. Of course, there're lot of links to other Marilyn Monroe Web sites (yes, some of these contain nudes!) though you'd probably want to spend more time here before exploring them.

Einstein - Image and Impact: Albert Einstein is arguably the most celebrated and influential scientist of the 20th Century, and this site devoted to his life and work not only serves as a first-rate introduction but also provides arresting insights into his genius. There are eight sections -- 'Formative Years', 'The Great Works', 'E=mc2', 'World Fame', 'Public Concerns', 'Quantum and Cosmos', 'Nuclear Age' and 'Science and Philosophy' -- dealing with the most important points of his life. And the autobiographical essay, 'The World As I See It', provides an intriguing look at the way he perceived things. The pictures that accompany the essays are great, and if you're thinking of getting deeper into his theories, just scan to the links to pick the sites offering detailed analyses.

Mahatma Gandhi: A Retrospective: The Mahatma is a world-famous figure whose influence has hardly waned over the decades, which is probably why the Indian Government has devoted an entire site to him. The main draw here is Gandhi's own writings ('Satyagraha', 'Inner Voice & Vows', 'Nationalism in India', 'Theory of Trusteeship', 'National Education'...) but the photo gallery and the Real Video clips -- you'll need a fast connection for them, though -- will vividly enhance your appreciation of this saintly man's work. The three essays by Tagore ('Gandhi Maharaj', 'A Liberated Soul' and 'The Supreme Man') and the transcript of Nehru's speech following Gandhi's assassination ('The Light Has Gone') are also illuminating even when their tone borders on hagiography. The biographical sketch in 'Life and Times' offers a good introduction, and the home page has an uncluttered, eye-pleasing look.

Soup Recipe.com: It's incredible what you can find on the Internet, especially when you're desperately looking for sites that rise above the ordinary. This is not only an excellent resource for soup-makers but is also a great infobank for loners who want to try their hand at brewing up a simple liquid dish in their kitchen. You can browse the recipes by category -- 'Bean Soups', 'Chicken Soups', 'Chili', 'Chowders', 'Gumbo' etc -- or go straight to the 'Top Ten' or 'Recipe of the Day' for favorites, or the 'Recipe Roulette' for a random selection. If you're in a hurry, there's a 'Dinner in an Instant' link, and if you feel like corresponding with a community of soup lovers just go into 'Recipe Exchange'. The site is well-designed, with both a standard and a pull-down search box to help query-geeks. And it's so easy to navigate that you can actually take your laptop into the kitchen and get your recipes live from the Web.
