 One Sunday morning on 31 October 1985, 20 people pioneered the first Illawarra Sunday Morning Toastmasters Club meeting. Mary Cook is the founder of the first and only club in the world that meets on an early Sunday morning. May Mitchell a long standing member is the co-founder of ISMT. John Fairman was the District Governnor at the time. All three of them are still standing members of the Club.

 How ISMT started
Years ago, Mary Cook wondered "...why not start a club for people who are working & who find it difficult to attend meetings on weekdays?..." The idea of a Sunday morning Toastmasters meeting became a reality.
What was the aim for starting this club?
This club provides opportunities to anyone who is unable to attend the usual evening Toastmasters club meetings to grow, learn and enjoy Toastmasters on a Sunday morning.

May Mitchell's humour lightens up the meeting with her stories.

Members do not mind tears of laughter in their eyes.
