Sugamo, Japan Today.

Present Day

The City of Ikebukuro was the location where the Prison was built. The structure was razed (demolished) in 1971 and in its stead was built a 60 story building named "Sunshine 60" . It was the tallest structure in all of Japan until recently a taller building was constructed in Yokohama.

Only a rock with the engraving " PRAY FOR ETERNAL PEACE" stands on the grounds that formally was Sugamo Prison. There is an information booth in the park that the once housed several thousand of the worlds most notorious felons. If you were to ask the young lady that gives directions " Where was the Prison Located?" She would reply " I don't know!"
