NOW ACCEPTING ENTRIES FOR
THE 4th ANNUAL 'SUBMERGE' Art and Environment Festival 2005. Begins on July 16th. ( see below for schedule)
The festival show cases films, videos, photography and environmental remediation exhibits from local and international artists that celebrate and/or raise the public's awareness to our fragile aquatic environments and the environmental, social, and political issues that challenge it. The festival traditionally travels to various indoor and outdoor venues at various communities in NY harbor
Submit your film, video, photography, multimedia installation and environmental remediation exhibit about WATER. Festival offers a competiton and award for" best fine art photography", "best photo documentary", "best video art", "best video or film documentary", "best short in film or video", and "best rediscovered NYC Waterway" Winning entries will be posted on the website, and notified by email. Festival traditionally travels to various venues through out NYC and tri-state area.
All genres are welcome. Video formats are accepted in DVD, VHS, Beta Sp, and Mini DV. Film formats- 16mm, vhs for review. Photography, submit up to six slides, or six 8 x10, or digital files for review. Selected entries will required to be matted and exhibit ready- up to 16 x 20.( Please inquire on larger sizes). Submissions are only $10 before FEBRUARY 1st, $15 dollars BEFORE April 1st, and $25 dollars after. Entries are accepted all year around. Final DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES for SUMMER 05 is- April 30th 2005. Returning to Pier 63 Maritime In 2005, with a Grand Opening Exhibits and Party on the Frying Pan and Lackawanna Caboose: Home port of the Historic Ships- The Frying Pan, Fireboat John Harvey, and host a wide variety of Historical sail ships traveling along the NY Harbor. Pier 63 is also the current base of Captain/Explorer Extraordinaire Reid Stowe and "The Anne" his 70 foot schooner. Capt Reid and "The Anne" are working on aproject to spend 1000 Days at Sea. Tales of Capt Reids adventures can be heard every Monday Night, with Live Nature Music, wild spirit dances, Aquatic Videos and much more!. "St. Anne" sails weekly for short trips along the Harbor Estuary. Bar, Grill, Kayaking, Pilate, Dance, Art Festivals, Concerts, Private parties, all on the NYC Waterfront's best kept secret. Pier 63 Maritime is located at West 23rd and West Hway, in Chelsea.

SUBMERGE ART AND ENVIRONMENT FESTIVAL SCHEDULE 2005
SAT JULY 16th- Submerge Art and Environment Festival Celebrates The Gowanus Canal- This venue will feature an outdoor cinema and multimedia presentation of Live Underwater Video Exploration of what lies beneath the Gowanus Canal showcasing several films about the Gowanus Canal made by local and international filmmakers. The festival is preceded with a guided eco-cruise of the canal aboard The Urban Divers conservation vessel Gowanus Monitor and fleet of skiffs. Films screens at sunset. Eco-cruise begins at 1PM. Festival is in conjunction with 32nd Annual 2nd Street Block Party.
Featured film presentations: Award Winning Documentary- " Coming Clean, Reclaiming the Gowanus Canal", winner of the Columbia Journalism Mencher Award for superior investigative journalism on a local story. Produced by Alexandre Haggiag, Brett Hovell and Jessica Mador. Features interviews with local residents, city council, developers, reps of Army Corp of Engineeres , The Urban Divers, GCCDC, River Keeper and others. "Gowanus Canal"- Anand Kamalakan, "Gotham Fish Tale- Gowanus Canal Excerpts "- Robert Maas, "Gowanus Roots"- Sean Oneil, "Saving the Gowanus Canal"- produced by local filmmaker for NHK (Japanese Public Television). SAT AUG 6th, 3pm- 7pm- Submerge Art and Environment Festival Celebrates The Harelm River. Featuring the works of world renown underwater photographer DONALD TIPTON, Brooklyn Museum Collection Photographer and Bronx resident HOWARD CASH and OTHERS. @ The Harlem River and Hudson River Marine Station and Ecology Center located at Roberto Clemente State Park, and NYC Bridge Park on the Harlem River off of Sedwick and Cedar Ave. The festival is conjunction with the opening reception of the Harlem River Estuarium- an interpretive aquarium of our urban estuary.
