SCENE ONE

SCOTT
(V/O narrative)
[Sighs]?Damnit! Why do I feel like I?m
doing a class report? Because I am telling a
story for, you nice ladies and gentlemen a piece
I?d like to call , an ode to life on my life Half
Way There, by yours truly! Now, problem is
where do I start, I mean, the beginning is the
norm what is the beginning? When I was born?
My first braces, or the time I made my 100th
touch down in school? I know?
EXT. ARAGON WAY/BAILEY?S BED AND BREAKFAST ? DAY
[90s tune played in background]
A car drives through Atlanta to an offbeat known as Union Park. Regulars to carry on, as it goes to Aragon way until it reach Mrs. Bailey's Bed & Breakfast inn, a two-story grayish/brown house.
SCOTT
(V/O Narrative)
October 28, 1990! When I left quaint Scottsdale,
Louisiana for the southern big city Atlanta, and
on the road to become a man?.
INT. --- ANTHONY?S CAR---DAY
ANTHONY FOX tall, light haired, athletic guy and SCOTT GREY, a black guy of equal build, minus few inches in height, sits in the car both anticipating their destination.
SCOTT turns off the radio and fiddles with his glasses and any object around, he take off and cleans them.
SCOTT [v/o narrative]
The Midwestern golden boy sitting there, Anthony
Wesley Fox, you can say he?s my best friend,
He was also best in this ?rite of passage? thing.
Now, as for me?
Grabs his hand
ANTHONY
Stop it! I told you everything will be cool?
SCOTT [v/o narrative]
?All thumbs! Fine as hell, you have to admit?
SCOTT
But still I can't help but to be a little concern.
ANTHONY
Didn't we discuss this before we left?
SCOTT
This ain't what I'm use to, you know?
ANTHONY
That's why I did this for you for us
Putting his hand on his lap, SCOTT moves it out of the way.
ANTHONY
(Sighs)
Look, I'll go first if you just chill!
Getting out, SCOTT nods
ANTHONY
Chill!
EXT. --B?N?B HOUSE--DAY
ANTHONY pauses and goes the door entrance.
SCOTT
(V/O Narrative)
Now before you think this is some fucking
tear jerkin, coming of age thing you?re so
wrong! There?s a lot more to this, like
drama, suspense, and a shit load of other
folks, naturally!
As soon as he is about to knock, His uncle GARY RHENNES, a thirty something, average/medium build, man it opens.
ANTHONY
(Bad cockney accent)
?ello, Spear this poor bloke a penny and
lodgin?, Good Sir!
Recognizing him
GARY
Hey there, stranger!

SCOTT [v/o narrative]
The dude he?s clowning, as always, with his
uncle, Mr. Gary Rhennes, tycoon in waiting
and owner of what was (I must say) To be finest
bed and breakfasts in Atlanta or even the south.
Yes, this was where we?d stay. Hello, 1990?Read!
My Lips, No New Taxes!? You think two barely
broken non-college bound dudes were just gonna
find an apartment cheap? Even I had common
sense!
ANTHONY
Uncle Gary?
GARY
[Smiling]

Letting him go.
ANTHONY

Hands in his pocket out of boredom
GARY
If you are own your own or some thing?
Everything's ok ?.
ANTHONY
[interrupts]

SCOTT
(V/O Narrative)
And you sure will! Not assuming the worst!
nor with Gary, I mean, let?s face it he has a
heart of gold, gives you the shirt off his back,
yadda, yadda?
He signals SCOTT to get out of the car.
GARY
Yeah I sure do? and you brought someone!
Notices SCOTT getting out
ANTHONY
Just a friend!
SCOTT drags cautiously to ANTHONY with a sheepish smile.
He rest his hand and around his shoulder.
ANTHONY
Yeah, this is?Scott.
SCOTT quickly throws his hand out the greet GARY..
GARY
So, this is Scott!
SCOTT
[smiles]
Yeah, [looking at ANTHONY] what did
you tell? him, Tony ?
Pushing ANTHONY's arm off.
ANTHONY
(Agitated)
Nothing, this is my uncle Gary the person
we are staying with, remember I told you?
chill [hinting]
GARY
(Chuckles)
Don?t worry I?m just the mean ole landlord
who bite the

SCOTT is more intimidated
GARY
No, you're cool here
Embarrassed, he cleans his glasses
SCOTT

Awkwardly fumbles
GARY

SCOTT smiles in comfort
SCOTT [v/o narrative]
Old Gar? darker skeleton in his closet,

GARY'S lover DAVID NEWMAN, a young thin, flamboyant, man interrupts walks outside.
Deep southern accent.
DAVID V/O
Gary, you still here?
GARY
Out here!
Standing by the door
DAVID
Well, I?m glad I caught you, sugar?
SCOTT v/o

Show interest with ANTHONY and SCOTT
DAVID

GARY

DAVID

Both give a sheepish smile
DAVID

Eyeing SCOTT
SCOTT
(V/O Narrative)
As you guessed, Gary is a same sex loving guy!
And I can?t see how he never ?got the vapors?

ANTHONY
You must David, he warned me more of you.
DAVID
(flirtatious)
And rightfully!
sticking his hand out
ANTHONY
Nope, [sarcastically smiles] just dissing
you?kidding!
DAVID
You need a whoopin?, child!
They all laugh except SCOTT, still awkward.
DAVID
And who is this, wonder piece of art!
ANTHONY
My buddy? ah, Scott!
Says putting his arm around him to him down
Intimidated with a smirk
SCOTT
Yeah what?s up?
Slowly bringing his hand out to greet.
GARY
I would worry about him, he?s vicious and hasn?t
got his shots Scott! And will bite!
DAVID
Only when provoked!
Winks at him, SCOTT replies with a sheepish laugh.
SCOTT [V/O narrative]
Nah, he isn?t really that bad, ever. Just likes
attention, a lot of attention! I think!
GARY
Told ya he?ll be ok!
SCOTT and ANTHONY also stare and smiles at each other for
a spit second. DAVID kisses his cheek and leans on GARY?S
shoulder.
DAVID
So, are you guy a just visiting?.
Lifting his head up to talk
ANTHONY
No, we?re hoping to stay awhile?
Tries to hold on to SCOTT 'S hand
SCOTT
Yeah, to do something different.
he reluctantly allows.
DAVID
[Large grin]
Well, great we can catch up! I have so much
to do anyways?
GARY
Yeah, they?re going to stay awhile until they
can get settled here, if that sounds okay?
ANTHONY
I was hoping for that Scott and I are about broke?
SCOTT
Yeah I?ll be happy to pay back as soon as?.
DAVID
Don?t worry sweetie, ?me casa, es su casa.?

GARY

SCOTT

GARY
Well, I?m headed to the store anyways we?re
having a little surprise costume party for a
good friend since it?s close to Halloween?
Walking off and getting his keys out of his pocket
DAVID
Which reminds me, you also need to pick up
some pumpkins dear.
GARY
Thought Marie was coming over with the pumpkins.
DAVID
Well she?s not; she runs a floral shop not a grocery store.
GARY
[Sighs]
Thank you, smart-ass!
Pecks him
DAVID
Talk about my ass when you get home, I have to get
your rooms read ;it?ll only take a sec.
Going back inside
ANTHONY
Uh, I better get the stuff out of the car
SCOTT
I?ll come with you!
Both SCOTT and ANTHONY let go and heads for the car.
ANTHONY
Nah, I have it? Why don?t you go with Gary!
Annoyed
SCOTT
That?s ok, I wanted to help you?
Awkwardly attempt to takes the bags from his hand
ANTHONY
No I said! It?s only two or three bags! Besides,
I need some rest after that long ride and you
need to wake up.
Rubbing on SCOTT?S face
GARY
I need the company, and we can get to
know each other better.
Reluctant shakes his head
SCOTT [sighs]
All right!
Walking to open the door of GARY?S car.
ANTHONY
(Sarcastically)
Don?t worry man; I?ll still be here when
you come back!
Goes to the entrance.
GARY
No harm will come to him, but you better
worry about David he is vicious. Just wait
for him inside!
Getting in the car
ANTHONY gives SCOTT peck on the cheek in which he awkwardly smiles.
SCOTT
(V/O narrative)
Yeah?Ok, ok! If you haven?t guessed I am also in
a same sex relationship. He?s ?My Love and My Life,
He is The Inspiration!??However that cheesy Chicago
tune goes!
SCOTT
I guess I?ll be back soon Tony.
Enters into the car ANTHONY goes inside.
SCOTT
(V/O narrative)
I could tell you the rest of the gang and details
but, that would kill the purpose of this. As my
dad would say, ?you on your own, boy! I held
hand this far!? Now I let the story tell itself, ?.
Study, ?cause there will be a quiz later, haaa!

SCENE TWO
INT. MRS.BAILEY?S BED N? BREAKFAST-DAY
Enters ANTHONY holding two bags into a half empty old-fashion house, ANTHONY stands in awe. Then walks to the stairs and calls for DAVID
ANTHONY
(Slight shrieky voice)
David?
Continues calling him, giving up sits near the steps looking tired and worn out. GARY?S longtime friend, MARIE CONNORS, walks in holding some boxes full of decorations.
MARIE
[Sarcastically and smiles]
You?ll never get a room that way,
Walking through with a smiling, balloons, and flowers in her hands.
ANTHONY
(Clueless)
Excuse me?
MARIE
Looking for a room.
ANTHONY
No, actually I?m looking for David, he was
suppose to set up room for me, do you also
work here.
MARIE
No, I just like to annoy Dave and Gary. I work
over at the floral shop half a block past. Just
getting the last touches for the party.
ANTHONY
Oh, you must be Marie then.
MARIE
(Jokingly)
What can I say? And who are you that know of me
Struggling with the boxes
ANTHONY
Anthony, Gary?s nephew?
MARIE
I wish I could greet you properly but seeing
the situation?
Noticing the boxes stumbling off, grabs a falling box.
ANTHONY
Looks like you need assistance.
MARIE
Yeah, thanks just carry it to the back. And don?t worry
about your stuff People here are cowards to steal.
They walk down past the staircase the door that leads to the backyard.
EXT. BAILEY?S B ?N?B/BACKYARD-DAY
ANTHONY and MARIE enter the decorated Victorian-like backyard. They go to a long table by a dried up old fountain.
Supervising him
MARIE
Yeah, right here. Thanks.
Looks at area
ANTHONY
So, do Gary and David do this all the time?
MARIE
For who they are throwing the party to, they have
known for years. Almost like siblings, so you
know the deal
ANTHONY
I guess
MARIE
Gary never mentioned a nephew.
ANTHONY
Well, his sister is my stepmother but I guess,
we act more like brothers than anything.
More lax, he smiles.
ANTHONY (CONT'D)
(Blushing)
I just came down to live a see what this city
is all about, with ?.um ,Scott.
MARIE
[Sarcastic]
Who?s um, Scott?
ANTHONY
[Nervously but comfortable]
A, um, friend from home!
Fidgeting on some Halloween stuff
MARIE
A um, friend ?
Patting him on the back
ANTHONY
You?re full of questions!
MARIE
[Sarcastically]
Well ?um? before a person?s name does
make a lesbian nosey1
ANTHONY
Well, I don?t know what else to call him?
I mean?why am I telling you this?
MARIE

ANTHONY

together for a while
MARIE

MARIE
[Pinching his cheeks]

As they continue to talk, DAVID?S voice interrupts as he walks out with a lilt.
DAVID
There you are, I thought Mrs. Wailer scared you off
or something. And I see you met our little flower girl,
hey Marie girl.
Going to MARIE and kissing her on both cheeks.
MARIE
He was bored so, I put him to work
Arranging flowers and stuff
DAVID
Oh, Mary you slave driving dominatrix.
Hugging on MARIE like a toy
MARIE

ANTHONY

Winking while joking around with them.
DAVID

Mocking a bowing stance towards MARIE
MARIE
I don?t know about the dominatrix outfit but Tamara or Tami
as she likes to be called though will not miss it
ANTHONY

DAVID
Oh yes, her glamorous model/girlfriend ?Ms. Cindy Crawford?
MARIE
She?s trying to be at least?.
DAVID
I hope she gets up there at least one of us
gorgeous people will be in Vogue or Cosmo.
MARIE

DAVID
(Melodramatic)

She smiles and shaking her head
DAVID

MARIE

Goes to the door
ANTHONY

DAVID

Shooing her away, She flips him and leaves. ANTHONY continues looking around.
DAVID
You like, We did this all morning.
Places arm around him.
DAVID
We meaning Gary worked and I watched
A bit intimidated, he slides it away
ANTHONY
[Remembering]

DAVID
Lowell and Rhennes Financial Services?
If you call sitting on your ass waiting for
potential clients, then yeah.
ANTHONY
I thought he?d be busier.
Hand is continued over his shoulder.
DAVID
What do you mean?
ANTHONY
He has this place and his other business as well,
and now throwing a party, how does he do it.
DAVID
I don?t know about that but all I can think of
is behind every man like Gary, there is a strong
diva like me

SCENE THREE
INT. -SHOPPING STORE-DAY
Like a mini-metropolitan city, people are going in and out this Halloween dressed shopping centre. As the intercom cries out bargains, Halloween sales and lost children.
GARY and SCOTT walk with cart of full foods, and other items in a food aisle. Still uncomfortable, SCOTT fiddles around with items in the buggy and his glasses.
Noticing SCOTT?S awkwardness he tries to say something.
GARY
It seems it?s gonna be an unseasonably warm
winter, huh?
Shallow look
SCOTT
[quivering voice]
Uh, I don?t know anything much about that.
Giving a sheepish smile and fidgeting with his glasses. At the aisle of Halloween items and pumpkins
GARY
Could you get those bags up there?
SCOTT clumsily tries to help with items.
GARY
(To himself)
Shit, Carla, why the hell your birthday has to be
close to Halloween? I?m too young for this?
I thirty one and I?m already a candidate for
Hypertension!
GARY
(To SCOTT)
What ever you do, man don?t ever think of
owning two businesses, and shit loads of friends!
SCOTT awkwardly smiles
GARY (CONT'D)
And me getting a guy who?s ten years my youth..
but acts younger than so?guess it?s a early mid-life
crisis.
Still in silence
GARY (CONT'D)
Sorry, too much info- huh?
Silence continues until reluctantly SCOTT speaks
SCOTT
(Stutters)
Is that your friend you?re throwing the party for?
GARY
Oh yeah lady cop I?ve known like my own
family away from home, Carla Mae Adams.
She used to stay at the Inn when it was a boarding
house I was like you scared to be out.
Picking up a few more items
SCOTT stop looks with implications.
GARY
? Here in Atlanta. ?She helped me out and we
looked out for each other.
Goes to help GARY with the pumpkins in the aisle picking up a big pumpkin, SCOTT anxiously grabs the pumpkin it breaks. He
Freezes looks like a guilty child
GARY
[Chuckles]
Don?t worry about it I?ll just get another one
SCOTT rushes to his aid to replenish his follies trying to cleans up what was left
SCOTT
Sorry, I?ll help
SCOTT again almost tripping over the remains, GARY moves him out of the way
GARY
[Chuckles]
No, that?s ok just wait there?relax.
SCOTT
I?m cool!
Quick grins, as he quivers and fidgets with his glasses.
GARY
Well try to at least look it ?
Grabs his hand to stop him from fondling around
GARY
I don?t bit, really.
Reaching to grab his shoulders. Not sure to trust him, he pulls away
SCOTT
You said that before.
Second of awkward silence. Then noticing SCOTT?S uncomfortable actions, grabs his hand again
GARY
What?s the matter?
(Sighs)
Nothing honest I?m just very wary around
people I don?t know nothing personal being
SCOTT (CONT.)

GARY
You?ll have to get use to it I am in a way, ?family?
Slightly offended
SCOTT
Uh, I don?t think so! Now you?re beginning to sound
like Tony with that ?
GARY

interrupting
SCOTT

Cleaning his glasses again.
GARY
Are you ashamed of being with him?
SCOTT pauses look at again strangely
GARY
[sighs]
Look, I know it seems intimidating you
expect everything to be in a strategic order?
Rolling his eyes back and interrupts
SCOTT
Listen thank you for letting me stay with you,
but I?m not ready to tell my life story I just wanna get
through this ok?
SCOTT walks with the buggy as GARY shrugs his shoulder and follows.

SCENE FOUR
INT. FLORAL SHOPPE- DAY
The semi empty floral shop MARIE tends and waters the vegetations while singing a folksy tune. TAMI MARTINEZ, a slender brunette woman and her lover, walks in spots MARIE and goes up to her.
[MARIE continues to sing ]
TAMI
[interrupts]
Ah, excuse me could you stop singing and help
a paying costumer.
Playing along
MARIE
It all depends on what I?ll get out of it, lady!
TAMI

MARIE
So what the hell do ya want?
Checking out the plant towards MARIE.
Sarcastically

MARIE

As TAMI gets closer to her
MARIE

MARIE in returns reacts more seductively .

They kiss, TAMI stops and pulls away.

They continue, and then fall over some plants behind.

SCENE FIVE
INT.-SHOPPING STORE-DAY
GARY and SCOTT stand in the middle of the aisles, while GARY talks on his cellar phone to a client, while SCOTT fondles with the item in the basket.
Frustrated after an unsuccessful negotiation, he then also fondles at some of the vegetables in the basket.
GARY
[to himself]
Shit, another day without a decent dollar
SCOTT still silent watching GARY
GARY
You think you?d get what you?re paying for
Pointing it out to SCOTT who seems oblivious to what?s going on.
GARY
Not interest at that either.
He sighs seemingly feeling no connection. Trying to break the ice after the prior episode.
GARY
Look, about earlier I wasn?t trying to intrude in your
business?.
He interrupts
SCOTT
I told ya I?m ok
GARY
You look it earlier I thought I offended you?
Getting agitated SCOTT walks forward to the next aisle leaving GARY to follow.
As they pushed their cart they unknowingly bumped into an, short, dreadlock woman in Afro centric attire, NIKKI PATTERSON, close friend, who also isn?t paying any attention. Both GARY and NIKKI then look up and recognize each other.
GARY
[Startled and happy]
Nikki I didn?t see you there
NIKKI
Gary, what?s up baby?
Embracing each other leaving SCOTT to watch and wait
GARY
[Looking exhausted]
Just getting the last ?finishing touches? for tonight.
NIKKI
How does it look so far?
GARY
Oh it looks halfway beautiful, she?ll love it
NIKKI
She says she doesn?t want any fuse over her birthday, but she
really deserves something to get her mind off of working
doubles at that fucking precinct. Sending her on those goddamn
stakeouts and shit.
GARY
She?s still giving her those migraines, huh?
NIKKI
And ulcers again, did you know she almost
got shot in the head and back thrice last
weekend, in fact she went in the hospital
for a flesh wound near her arm
Looks at SCOTT
SCOTT
And so damn cranky and tired we can?t do
anything romantic anymore.
Interrupting her
GARY
?..sorry, this is Scott; he is my nephew?s ?
GARY

Both GARY and NIKKI reading between ?inside joke? and smiles
NIKKI
[Shaking his hand]

GARY
And this is Carla?s wife, Nikki
Surprised and baffled
SCOTT

GARY

To SCOTT
NIKKI
That?s what happen when you?re in love for a longtime, you
marry a beautiful woman for a long time my brother, she
becomes you?re wife.
NIKKI
So are you guy visiting here?
SCOTT
Nah planning on staying
GARY

Speaking of which, I got errands to fulfill and this
surprise thing?
GARY
Oh She?s doesn?t have a clue about it, right?
NIKKI
In fact she thinks we are going have a romantic night alone
at home but I?ll try to persuade her to come and at least
drag David to.
GARY
You don?t wanna do that
NIKKI
Gotta go, nice to meet you?Scott?
SCOTT
Yeah-same here.

GARY

Waving as she walks the opposite direction. Both GARY and SCOTT go in an open line
SCOTT
She?s her wife, I didn?t know that

GARY
