A new generation of artists is combining and redefining traditional art forms, creating new materials, performance practices and methods of artistic expression. The Strange Attractors XII Festival of Experimental Music and Intermedia Art will bring to Metropolitan State University a collection of renowned artists in a celebration of new work and creativity. The festival will offer a flexible and interactive environment for artists to present and discuss their work to audiences who will have a unique opportunity to experience these works in diverse and creative ways.

David Means – A faculty sabbatical recital of new intermedia performance installations “TumbleWeed” and “Roland’s Ghost”, with Steve Goldstein, Carei Thomas and special guest artist Johnny Rodriguez, from San Antonio.

Spoken Word Performances– Performance poetics curated by JoAnne Makela and Susan Hammerski, playwrights and poet-performers with “Penchant”.

Friday, November 4th (7 p.m.)

 

Experimental Opera Workshop Showing Guest artist Jim Malec and David Means join workshop members to present a showing of excerpts from their new video opera, *now.

Friday, November 11th (7 p.m.)

 

AntiGravity – Avant and improv giants join for a collaborative feast; featuring Jacqueline Ferrier-Ultan, cello; Dean Granros, electric guitar; and laptop minister of the Avant-Gawd, Steve Goldstein.

Friday, November 18th (7 p.m.)

 

New Student Films and Creative Capstones – Senior projects in experimental music and intermedia arts frame two new films by former students Dain Girodat and Nicholas Guerts.

Steve Goldstein and the Nobles eXperimental interMedia Group The guest artist and laptop performer joins the Group in presenting new-spirited improvisations, compositions and capstone projects.
