Parents
Beginning with the first newsletter, the staff
has emphasized the importance of social responsibility in all
communications with parents, and provided a variety of activities to
help parents understand the performance standards and provide support
for their children.
- At every Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
general and executive meeting, the principal provides an update on
social responsibility.
- All parents have copies of the
Performance
Standards for Social Responsibility.
They have also used the scale to rate their perceptions of the
school.
- One of the three parent nights was devoted to
social responsibility.
- The report cards parents receive consistently
describe their childrens progress using the language of the
social responsibility standards, with the initial section
describing the student's social responsibility. Report
Cards
- All staff are committed to using the language
of the standards in their interactions and discussions with
parents. This includes behaviour support plans for students who
have made unwise decisions and behaved in ways that are not yet
within the expectations for their grade level.
- Many parents report informally that they are
using the language of the performance standards at home,
frequently talking about social responsibility (e.g., Is
that fully meeting expectations? What could you do that would
change it to fully meeting expectations?)
