*The Clyde McCullough Award for Padres pitcher of the year was established in honor of the late San Diego bullpen coach who passed away on September 18, 1982. McCullough, whose career spanned nearly five decades as a player, coach, instructor and scout, was an inspirational and popular figure. The award originally honored the Padres top rookie but in 1990 changed to honor the club's best pitcher.
