Traditional Bran Mash Ingredients: Bran Grain/Sweet Feed Warm Water Molasses Corn Oil Apples Carrots Instructions: First, heat the water (you aren't going to need a whole lot- about 1/3 of a bucket) so it's warm enough, but not too hot for the horses to eat. Then add bran and grain (more grain than bran if it's your horse's 1st bran mash). Keep adding bran and grain until it becomes thick soupy. Then add some molasses (a cup or 2) and/or corn oil. You can also add carrots and apples, cut into manageable chunks. |
Bran Ingredients: Wheat Bran Warm Water(enough for bran to absorb) Carrots, Apples or anything else your horse likes Instructions: Mis bran and water in feed pan or bucket. Cut carrots and apples up and mix in with the bran. Serve to your horse warm. |
Star's Fruity Bran Mash Ingredients: 2 scoops Bran Enough hot water for the bran to absord Molasses Carrots Apples Crunch Some mints(optional A bucket Instructions: Put bran and water in the bucket. Let the bran soak for awhile and then drain excess water. Then stir in the molasses, chopped carrots, chopped apples and crunch mix. Add mints if desired serve to your horses at a warm temp. not hot! |
Hot Bran Mash Ingredients: 2 cups Bran 1 1/2 cup Sweet Feed(one and one half) or usual grain mixture 1/4 cup molasses Hot water Instructions: Mix all ingredients together and add enough hot water to make it soupy. Feed immediately. (Make sure it's not too hot). This basic recipe may be used to add medications to. |
X-mas Mash Ingredients: 1 lb Bran 1/2 cup Sweet Feed 4 packets of Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal 4 packets of Apple and Cinnamon Oatmeal 1/3 can of Regular Oatmeal(or 4 packets) 3 cups Kellogg's Craklin' Oat Bran Cereal 1 Apple 3 Carrots 4 oz Molasses Hot Water Instructions: Mix dry ingredients in feed bucket. Add enough hot water to just cover the dry ingredients and let set for 12 minutes. Add molasses and stir. Check tempture before you give it to your horse so you don't burn him. From Shelly |
Lil Star in Heaven is a 1981 foundation bred AQHA mare. She was my 1st big horse after a number of pony. Because of this she will always have a place at the farm. She is in semi retirement but still likes to go out on a few trail rides. |
