Doug and his wife Mary live in Redkey, Indiana. Doug owns his own business, St. Myers Auto Service. He has been racing for about 20 years. The desire for racing started when he was a small boy, from his father being a race driver and champion at Eldora Speedway.

Doug started racing a Hobby Stock Race Car. This car was known as "Old Blue". He won several feature races at Montpelier Speedway, also winning the championship. Next he started driving a UMP Late Model. After that he got into a UMP Modified.

In 1999 he had to hold off some pretty good competition to win 2 track championships, one at Gas City I-69 Speedway and the other at Montpelier Speedway. The 2000 year was just as good for Doug winning 2 track championships again at Gas City I-69 Speedway and Montpelier Speedway.

UMP stand for United Midwest Promotions. Dues are paid at the beginning of each year. There are over 3,000 members from all over the United States. When a UMP race is run, points are awarded on the finishing place of each driver in the race. It depends on the races won and the place finished as to how the driver is ranked. Doug was ranked 6th in the state of Indiana and 48th in the United States.
