THE BARBARA LACKRITZ AWARDEES - 2009
The Barbara Lackritz AAUW Service Award was created in 2003 to recognize the AAUW branch members in the St. Louis area who have contributed many years of selfless, dedicated service to the promotion of the AAUW mission.  Barbara Lackritz, served in a variety of positions in the three branches in which she held membership: Creve Coeur, Kirkwood-Webster Groves and Ballwin-Chesterfield.  She held a variety of leadership positions in AAUW-MO, and received the first Woman of Distinction Award presented by that body at their Leadership Conference in 1984.  At the National level, Barbara was involved through her attendance and participation at conventions.  This award was created in memory of her contributions to AAUW’s goals.

For AAUW in the St. Louis area ... Branch Historian (2008-10 and 1990-93). Reviewed branch history for St. Charles' 75th Anniversary (2008). Writes newsletter articles highlighting each decade. Member of EF Committee which plans annual auction fund raiser. Initiated/ coordinated service project sponsored by St. Charles branch in cooperation with Sf. Charles County Court to establish a group home for children under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court (called Homewood). Member of St. Charles Program Committee. Membership VP (1967). Helped establish AAUW satellite branch in west St. Charles County (1975). St. Charles branch AAUW Community Representative (1970). Member St. Charles branch book review group over 20 years. Participated several years in the Great Decisions foreign policy discussion group. EF Named Gift honoree by St. Charles branch. Regularlyattends meetings; contributes financially to EF and LAF.
For AAUW MO ... Served as MO Division President (1973-75) and MO Division Community Representative (1971-73). During her tenure, 50- year MO AAUW history organized and placed in the Western Historical Manuscripts Division of the UM-Columbia. Coordinated MO AAUW project, Festival of Missouri Women in the Arts; involved 1300 women artists, series of 14 Festivals held throughout MO (1974). EF $3000 Fellowship created in her name by MO AAUW in recognition of her service (1975). Chair of MO Div. Nominating Committee (1975-77).
On AAUW Regional, National and International level ... Served on the Association Planning Committee for the National Convention in Seattle, WA (1975).
Leadership in non-AAUW areas ... Member of St. Charles County Social Alliance. Active member of Trinity Episcopal Church; served as president of church women, member of Altar Guild, Trinity Vestry, the priest search committee, and chair of the memorial garden for three years. Helped coordinate/implement a tutorial program involving college students and the adult community focusing on remedial work (1969-72). Served as an OASIS volunteer at the elementary level. Corresponding secretary of Bridge Builders of St. Charles County. Volunteered during campaigns for local and national political candidates through the years. Coordinated a drive for establishing Meals on Wheels in Charles which included other churches and civic organizations; wrote and received grant for federal funds for program. Sponsor of after-school Creative Writing Club at Hardin Middle School; sponsor of the student newspaper. Received Diana Award from Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a service organization (1970). Past member of League of Women Voters. Past member of FISH, organization to meet emergency needs of individuals and families in the St. Charles community (1969-72).
Dedicated professional ... Taught reading and English for over 30 years. St. Charles School District Teacher of the Year (1976). Listed in Outstanding Secondary Educators of America (1975).

For AAUW in the St. Louis area ... Served as K-WG President (1995- 97) providing strong leadership; mentors new leadership. Served as Publicity Chair (2002-07) getting K- WG programs listed in the Sf. Louis Post-Dispatch and community publications. Speaks at branch meetings about AAUW issues while attending branch meetings and activities regularly. Served as Program VP arranging for timely, mission-based programs. Served as Secretary and on the bylaws committee for K-WG branch. Received EF Named Gift from Springfield IL
branch, K-WG, and AAUW MOo Served as newsletter editor for KWG. Financially supports EF and LAF; participated in several fundraising activities. Served on/participated in Metro St. Louis IBC.
For AAUW MO ... Currently serving as AAUW MO Past President (2008-10). Served as President (2006-08); President Elect (2005-06). Chaired two state conferences. Under her leadership, AAUW MO focused on membership growth and increased communications. Promoted/increased College-university relationships and memberships. Created new student affiliate groups. Created Yahoo e-mail group for AAUW MO, provided state newsletters via e-mail, and created a members-only section on the state website. Applied for and received a public policy grant from national. State website and list-serve manager (2000-06). Trainer for the Round Table on Electronic Newsletters.
On AAUW Regional, National and International level ... Serving as chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for the 2009 AAUW Nat'l Convention in Sf. Louis. Served on the national AAUW Membership Task Force (2007). Participated in the planning of an SWC Regional Convention. Involved through attendance and participation at AAUW SWC Regional and National Association Conventions. Delegate for MO to Association Conventions.
Leadership in non-AAUW areas. .. Served on planning committee for 2006 MO Women's Summit and MO Women's Network's Equality Day brunch and program (2008). Walked in/volunteered at the LWV Yellow Umbrella Walk as SLU to commemorate the 'Walkless, Talkless Parade of 1916" and to promote voter awareness/registration (2008). Dedicated professional ... After retirement from Elsevier, Inc., started her own company, Roney Editorial Services, doing copyediting, substantive editing, and project management for the health-care field. While at Elsevier, was assistant director of Sf. Louis Issue Management and Log-In, manager of journal editing, special projects supervisor, senior manuscript editor and more. In early career, self employed as freelance writer, editor, and indexer; clients such as SIU School of Medicine and Temple University Press. Taught French at SIU.
