Pipe Organ purchased 1872

Designed by Edward Appleton, an architect who was Initiated into St. John's in 1855, just a few years before the Foundation Stone was laid.

The Foyer has a distinctive tiled paving in a masonic theme, which was a gift from Minton, the renowned ceramics company, the proprietor being a resident of Torquay (although not a Freemason). A winding staircase rises from here to the Tyler's room and the Temple, the steps being arranged in the true sequence of 3, 5, and 7 or more.

The Foyer also leads into the Refectory, Bar, and Kitchens, which are furnished in a comfortable manner, providing an atmosphere condusive to the post - meeting festive board.

The building is managed by a committee comprised of the Trustees and Representatives of those lodges using it, augmented by other brethren with something to add to the proceedings. Independent of the Lodges, they control the rents, repairs, renovations, cleaning, caterers and bar services, and take care of all expenses. They also organize fund raising activities which include Social Evenings, Raffles, and produce a range of products such as Personalized Coasters, Commemoration Mugs, Christmas Cards, etc, etc. in order to raise further building funds.
