Conclusion

Good points

Overall I feel this was a good project. Functionally the engine is good and there were no major problems during the build. I like the design of the engine and its classic looks. The size of the engine is impressive and it's nice to know that it could produce useful work if it was ever put into service. The Stuart kit was complete and most of the castings were very nice to machine.

The Stuart accessories are a nice finishing touch especially the lubricator which looks just right.

The completed engine standing on the lathe it was built on.

Bad points

The flywheel still disappoints me because I was unable to get it to run true and the defects in the rim are irritating. The fact that this was the second flywheel and had the same defects as the first is also disappointing.

The valve guide is an absolute mystery to me, it's as though it came from a different engine or was added as an afterthought. A solution to supporting the valve rod would be needed if the engine was ever put into service.
