Careers Connections

Hull Middle School
The Careers Connections class is set up to introduce students to the myriad of job opportunities available to them in the future.  In sixth grade, students learn about themselves---their interests, abilities, personality types, learning styles---and find jobs or careers that match these attributes.  They also learn the basics of how to start their own business.

Seventh-graders use the Selfdirected Search (SDS) to find careers that match their abilities and interests, and then they research a specific career in which they are interested to learn about job duties and responsibilities, training and education, earnings, and other related jobs.
In eighth grade, students begin to look at their high school programs and how the classes they take in high school can fit in with their career goals.  For their project, students research a postsecondary school of their choice to learn about costs, majors and degrees offered, student life, admission requirements, and graduation requirements.  Eighth-graders also go through the job-attaining steps---searching for a job, writing a resume, filling out a job application, learning interview tips.  In addition, they learn what is necessary to keep a job once they get it.

Hopefully, the Careers program here at Hull will give the students information that will be helpful for them when setting their future career goals.

Guest speakers are a vital part of the program, and anyone interested in coming to Hull to talk about  his/her job/career can contact Mr. Briody at 770-232-3200 or e-mail him at Steve_Briody@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
