Our own Neighborhood Association President, Mike Higginbotham gives us some guidelines to by which to make a good and courteous neighbor. This was taken from the monthly Neighborhood Association newsletter.

Community Begins With Common Courtesy

Being a neighbor means more than simply living next door – it’s about showing respect. Here are a few examples of what we mean...

- Maintain Yards While keeping a lawn similar to a golf course is above and beyond the call of duty, overgrown and trashy lots are bad for everybody as well as being against the law.

- Don’t litter We have trashcans for a reason and, once again, littering is against the law – put garbage where it belongs.

- Poop scoop after pets As you might suspect, most folks don’t like stepping in dog poop – please clean up after your pooch, which is also required by law.

- Keep the noise down No one appreciates unruly partying and loud music well into the evening hours. Again, this is controlled by city ordinance. And if you believe a loud party is the result of UAB students, you may call 934-4434.

- Park cars in appropriate places Where we park can affect the appearance of our neighborhood. Cars can be parked on the street or in a drive way, but parking them in the yard or on the right-of-way is against the law. It’s worth mentioning that inoperable vehicles can be left neither in the yard nor on the street by City ordinance.

Let’s all do our part to keep Five Points South a great place to live!
