Our Achievements

Organized in Detroit in 1893, we are the oldest Chapter in Michigan of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Throughout the years, the Chapter has contributed to the quality of life in the Detroit Metropolitan area and continue to do so today. We are a service organization whose members are direct descendants of Revolutionary soldiers and patriots. Our purpose is historic preservation, education and patriotic endeavor. Some of our accomplishments are listed below:

Historic Preservation

  • Marking of historic sites and buildings.
  • Financial support of local and national museums.
  • Financial support of historic churches, buildings and homes.
  • Promotion of Education

  • Sponsorship of historical essay contests for schoolchildren.
  • Establish and contribute to college scholarship programs.
  • Funding to Dominican Adult Literacy Program.
  • Funding and volunteer support to Southwest Detroit Literacy Program for children.
  • Contributions of funds and books to libraries.
  • Funding to Seedlings-Braille Books for Children ©.
  • Contribute to Detroit Free Press Charities promoting Children First ©.
  • Gift of Reading Program ©
    Summer Dreams © enrichment program for children.

    Patriotic Endeavor

  • Distribution of patriotic materials to new citizens.
  • Distribution of American flags to schools and groups.
  • Funding and services to veterans groups.
  • Awarding of recognition medals to ROTC cadets
  • Awarding of Good Citizenship Medals to schoolchildren.
  • Conservation efforts
  • Reforestation and community beautification.
    Contributions to Red Cross Blanket Fund, Salvation Army, and Detroit Rescue Mission.
