The Great Kapok  Tree

Lesson for Grade  4 Students
Objective:

The students will

-appreciate the literature
-Increase awareness of ecological condition and problems
-experience, think and name ways of conserving resources
-use technology in creating projects and multimedia presentation

Materials:

Textbook
Grollier’s Multimedia Encyclopedia
Access of Internet (Rainforest Sites, Ecology Conservation Sites, UN etc.)
Computer
Worksheets

Procedure:
Stage I

Motivation:  Student will brainstorm using  images online on Rainforest: show a site of a prestine  rainforest?

What do they see?

Knowledge about a tree, ask children what they think about the title.
Some students may not know about rainforest and show them images of rainforest through the computer. Encyclopedia and Internet is good source.

Stage II
Read the story “ The Kapok Tree”
Assess the student’s appreciation with setting and mood by asking themselves describe where the story takes place what is like to be there

Prediction activity (write on strips of paper)

Guide the children read the story
(Silent and Oral)

Refer to the prediction on the strips and acknowledge the contributor:
