| Saint Athanasius Feast Day: May 2 He was born in 296 and died in 373. When a Deacon, he accompanied his Bishop to the first council of Nicaea in 325 at which the Arian Heresy was condemned. Three years later he was elected to the See of Alexandria. He presided over this Church for forty six years of which seventeen were passed in exile because of his vigorous opposition to the spread of Arianism, which had the support of certain Emperors, and is the denial of the true and external divinity of Christ. |
