CSX's Alabama Mineral Sub runs Northeast out of Boyles Yard in Birmingham through Irondale,  Odenville, Wattsville, Ragland, and Ohatchee. At Wellington, the old SAL route ends and the line turns north on old L&N trackage north to Gadsden. After Gadsden, the line runs north to Attalla, crosses the NS AGS line, through Mountainboro, Boaz, and Albertville before ending along the shores of Lake Guntersville in Guntersville.  Just north of Attalla, a five mile branch splits off and runs to a Tyson feed mill. Laney Tunnel is just north of Wellington. Local industries that I know of are a large woodchip mill at Ohatchee, Goodyear in Gadsden. Much of the industries are in Albertville. They include: Mueller fire hydrant plant, Bowater sawmill, Progress Rail scrap yard, Pro-Pak and Tyson grain mills, Chinet, United Refrigated Warehouse, and a propane dealer.

6-axle locomotives and cars exceeding 263,000 lbs. can not operate north of Albertville.

Normially, a train from Birmingham arrives in Gadsden every weekday.  It returns to Birmingham in the evening. One train operates from Gadsden to Guntersville and back, and one operates from Gadsden to Albertville in the evening. Special unit grain trains sometimes operate to the Tyson mill north of Attalla, the Tyson mill in Albertville, or the mills in Guntersville.
