The Sunday School of St. Mary, the Virgin

The following essay, written by a 9 year old boy from the Channel Islands, should raise a smile. It was written at a camp on a wet Sunday afternoon, when they were challenged as to who could write the best essay explaining God:

• One of God’s main jobs is making people! He makes these to put in place of the ones that die. He doesn’t make grown-ups, just babies! I think it works out pretty well.
• God’s second most important job is listening to prayers! Lots of this goes on. Some people, like preachers, pray other times besides bedtime. God sees everything and is everywhere, which keeps him pretty busy! So you shouldn’t go wasting his time!
• Jesus is God’s son. He used to do all the hard work like:
  • Walking on water
  • Doing Miracles and..
  • Trying to teach people about God.
  They got tired of preaching and they crucified him! But he was good and kind like his father and he told his father They didn’t know what they were doing and to forgive them, and God said : OK.
• His dad, GOD appreciated everything he had done on earth, so he told him he didn’t have togo out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. Now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers. And seeing that he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary - ONLY more important! You can pray anytime you want, one of them is on duty all the time!
• You should always go the Sunday School, because it make God happy! Don’t skip Sunday School to do something you think will be more fun - that is wrong! Besides, the sun doesn’t come out till noon! If you can’t believe in God, you will be lonely because your parents can’t go with you, like a camp BUT God can. It’s good to know that he is around when you’re :
  • Scared of the dark
  • or when you can’t swim and
  • get thrown in by BIG kids.
  BUT you shouldn’t just think of what God can do for you. GOD put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.
