CHARACTER AND EDUCATION
We've been told by parents and students alike that much of the benefit of a Josephite Education lies in the personal growth each student experiences by going through our program. Our philosophy about how to lead a rewarding life begins with the concept that every person is responsible for his or her own circumstances and future. Naturally, there can be events beyond a person's control, but how you handle those events and what you make of your life as a result has to do with taking personal responsibility. We recognize many of the obstacles young people face in trying to live honest, productive and responsible lives and have worked to ensure the SJCNI experiences allows students to address these issues.
GUIDANCE AND CARE
All students need help from time to time, and this can be particularly true for young people who are struggling with their academic subjects, which are always available. Students who also have access to a faculty who can help them sort out other issues important to them. We want our students to be able to function as effectively as they possibly can while they are here, wnd to be well-prepared to deal with their adult environment. Having someone who can lend an ear, give a push, or help through the dufficulties of growing up can provide students with just the right touch to get them back on track.
A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
SJCNI cradles an atmosphere that fosters trust, honesty and tremendous support of productiove efforts between the student body and the faculty. Though our students actively participate in the community around them, the SJCNI Community can function as a safe haven from some of the more distracting outside elements of an urban environmentE
EXCHANGE Exchange is a kind of reciprocal give-and-take in which the quantity or value of something given is roughly comparable to that which is taken. When "exchange" is unbalanced, someone generally feel cheated. When it's balanced, everyone feels right. For example, part of a son's exchange with his parents for providing him with an education can be communicating with them regularly. Students exchange with the school community its by being responsible for it and partici[ating in the school service program--performing daily tasks that contribute to the school's activities. Learning to be reponsible for one's exchange in life is an important way in ahich character can be built. |
