LT1 valve covers modified

Modifying LT1 valve covers the easy way.

From the above picture you can see a cross brace in the inside of the valve cover. This brace needs to be modified for certain rocker arms. Rumor has it the horozontal part of the brace needs to be cut out in order for the valve covers to fit. This is not the case. The following modification is very simple and will take little time.

When looking at the cross brace you will notice the horozontal part of the brace is longer on one side than the other. You will want to work on the longer part of the brace. That is the part of the brace which goes between the trundles (pivot point) of the rockers. Take a pair of pliers or channel locks and grab the lip as you can see in the above pic. Bend this lip at a 90* angle (straight up). Do this to the long part of each cross brace.

While installing the valve covers onto the motor you may have to work in threading the valve cover bolts. This is because when you bend the cross brace you may distort the bolt housing on the valve cover. Have patience and work the valve cover around until you get the bolts threaded. You can also eyeball all the bolt housings to make sure they line up with one another. If you find one that is a bit out of kilter, tap on it a bit to get it back in line. This hang up is well worth having a valve cover that is still as rigid as an unmodified one.
