Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)

The grey squirrel receives it's name from the Greek word SKIA, "shadow" and OURA, "tail".

Loosely translated, this refers to how the squirrel sits in the shadow of it's own tail.

carolinensis - is in reference to the state where the grey squirrel was first collected and described.
