The SONLIGHT PUPPETEERS

About Us

The “Sonlight Puppeteers” originated as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church of Plymouth, Indiana in 1997. We are now a family based puppet ministry dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus.  We attend Culver Bible Church and are located in Culver, Indiana.

Over the past 8 years, we have performed programs for a wide variety of special occasions including: Vacation Bible Schools, Mother/Daughter banquets, Christmas & Valentine’s Day Programs, community festivals, family reunions, “Kings Kids” meetings, regional puppetry festivals, Campfire Girls picnics, “Christian Character Club” meetings, resident meeting and open houses at nursing homes,  and special church services and fellowships.

We have performed in a wide array of venues such as: churches, parks, nursing homes, schools, day camps, recreation buildings and private residences.

A recent unique opportunity presented itself when Dave was able to use his puppet; Daniel D. Lion, to deliver morning devotions to the "Operation Hoosier Relief" disaster relief team deployed to Mississippi (to help the Gulf Coast residents who had been affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita).  Dave was also able to use the puppet to minister to, and encourage, children who had suffered greatly as a result of the storm.

Our puppeteers have attended training at regional puppetry festivals, national “Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers” conferences, and through a comprehensive Audio/Visual library of puppetry training materials. We have also been involved in the nationally recognized professional organization; “Puppeteers of America”.

What We Do

Although there are always exceptions, most programs we perform consist of unique, interactive musicals filled with wholesome, family style humor. Our programs always focus on Biblical truths (especially the story of Jesus Christ) while meeting the needs and wishes of the audience. We have a large repertoire of music and are happy to abide by the most conservative music standards of our hosts. If requested, we can provide a soundtrack (prior to the performance) for host approval.

Scheduling a Performance

When not prevented by work or school schedules, we are happy to perform for any organization or group that will permit us to share Biblical truths and the love of Jesus Christ. Our hosts are asked to provide: a clean (adult supervised) performance area with access to a 120 volt 15 amp grounded electric outlet (this is the “standard outlet” found in most homes and buildings), audience seating (the floor is fine with us),  and assistance carrying equipment to and from our vehicle. We need a minimum area of 8 x 4 feet for our stage. If an outdoor performance is requested, we ask our hosts to provide an area that is free of high traffic or mud/loose dirt that may damage our equipment (cement/asphalt is preferred but good grass cover is acceptable). Scheduling arrangements may be made by contacting us at the address or phone number(s) listed below.

Cost

We consider our performances to be ministry, therefore, we do not charge anyone. In light of this “no charge” policy, our ministry’s survival depends on voluntary love offerings and donations that enable us to maintain our equipment and continue reaching out with the Gospel.   To offset costs, Churches are asked to provide a meal for the puppeteers about ½ hour prior to the performance.
