In June 1985 National Geographic published an article on the refugees and the war in Afghanistan. Lest we forget what war is about, killing, I've posted this image of a 12 year old Afghani girl  living in a refugee camp in Pakistan.  It is a reminder, along with the images of the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001, that war has a human price beyond the politics.

The eyes have haunted me ever since I first saw the cover.
