Objective:

I wish to be part of a busy, productive team focused on quality, accuracy and accessibility for our readers. First and foremost I am a reporter, but I can also contribute in many other areas, from headline composition to page layout.

Philosophy:

Hard work and good work. Objectivity is a must, but detachment can be deadly. Unless one cares enough to know the issues of their beat and thoroughly understand them, the end product will never be quality.

Recent employment:

¥Reporter for The Gateway News in Streetsboro, OH. I covered the communities of Hiram, Hiram Township, Mantua, Mantua Township and Garrettsville as well as the Crestwood and Garfield local school districts and numerous county and regional issues.

¥Duties: Meeting coverage, feature writing, assisting with paper layout, headline writing, photography, typesetting and general office duties.

¥Attributes: Extreme self-motivation, ability to communicate comfortably with local officials and residents, an understanding and appreciation of my communities, ability to quickly assess developments then compile information and put it to paper.

¥Skills: Versatile with a large number of computer programs, including Quark Express, NewsEdit/Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop.

¥Awards: Best Headline 1994, Best News Story 1995 (among 10 weekly newspapers owned by Record Publishing Company).

¥The Chicken Guy. I am a juggler, until recently performing at least once a week in the Akron and Cleveland areas. I meet and entertain hundreds of children and adults individually and in small groups. I have a chicken on my head, call everyone Larry, juggle, perform magic tricks, eat fire and do numerous other unusual things.
