Connie(my cousin) and I arrived in Muscatine,IA about noon on Saturady July 18th. As we checked into the hotel I was told Carolyn wanted me to call her. The suddenly, Carol and Steve Zerucha appeared. Carol is a friend from when Couplets was in my hometown. She also has had Couplets in her town too. So we share war stories.

Carol and I chatted for a bit. And then she and Steve headed on their merry way to take care of their poor car. Connie and I settled into our room. Then we hit the streets of Muscatine after I tried to call Carolyn.

We walked up to the church where Couplets was to be held . I took some photo's while Connie tried to peer in. She saw nothing. We then went back to the Hotel. I contacted Carolyn, finally. She invited us over for a little bit to watch some old tapes of hers. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane. However it was really sad seeing just how much the show has changed. The writing is so lacking these days. Every word in the 1970's and 80's carried impact. Today we are lucky if one word carries an impact.

We left Carolyn's so we could get ready for dinner and the play about 5. I also wanted to gather all my junk that I was dragging with me for VW and CK. At about 7:45 PM CST, Connie and I arrived at the Church. It was crowded (yeah). Connie and I sat along an isle and had a great view of the stage and the stars.

We weren't seated more than 5 minutes when Carolyn came out an introduced CK and VW. They laughed and joked and seemingly had a very good time. One spot light wasn't on so CK yelled "hey why isn't that spot on." And they kept making reference to the fact that they were doing this play in a church and under a hanging cross. VW started to say a line once and it suddenly hit her what she was about to say and she burst out laughing and said" God is going to get us yet." Later one set of lights completely failed and CK and VW joked that God was being vengeful.

The play itself was a combination of Couplets and Between Ourselves. It was very funny at times and heart wretching at others. The did exerpts of The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III, many poems including the one by a 12 year old girl named Shannon. She wrote this poem about CK and had to recite it infront of her class. Her mother sent it to VW.

Once the play was over we were all herded down stairs, where we could by T-shirts, keychains and also recieve a complementary picture of CK and VW. Everyone seemed to be having a very good time. VW and CK were very giving andalso seemed to have had a ball.

I finally got in line near the end. I had so much to give them that I didn't want to take time away form anyone else. I handed VW the scroll. And told her it was from her fans. I had CK sign my complimentary picture. I also gave VW some of the stuff that came with the names and emails. And a few messages sent to CK. I had CK sign a copy of the Online Flyer that I did when he was fired, also.

Oh yeah, Carol Zerucha provided green ribbons for everyone who wanted to where one in support of VW and CK. Thanks Carol.

Basically that's the end of the Muscatine Couplets story. I wish to thank Carolyn Williams for having been brave enough to manage to get this done. Carolyn you did Fabulous.
