VW and CK: Between Ourselves: Rhode Island story 1
By Dizzy

When I first heard that VW/CK were coming to RI, I was so excited. I knew I would get tickets but didn't know if anyone I knew would want to go with me. This problem was solved when I asked my daughter (who, although she grew up with me watching Another World and at times she would also watch, she never quite got hooked on it). Knowing how important it was for me to see this play, she agreed to go with me. I have a problem driving at night so the idea of going alone wasn't an option.

I called the theater and reserved our tickets and marked my calendar. October 16th, I was really very excited about going. The big night arrived. We followed the directions that the theater gave me but somehow got a little lost. We finally stopped at a gas station to ask directions (I'm so glad I'm not a guy and can do this).

We found the theater and I saw the poster of CK/VW in front and their names on the marquee, the excitement intensifies. I want to try and remember everything so I walk slowly to the theater entrance and pick up our tickets. Looking around, I see a really lovely little theater in need of some cosmetic work but lovely just the same. We found our seats; (I had requested two on the inside isle half way from the stage). My daughter commented on how nice to have so much legroom, as she is 5'9". The MC came out on stage to do the introductions and told us after the performance they would sell raffle tickets for autographed pictures of various cast member of AW and I thought at the time he said scripts from the last AW show signed by CK/VW. I couldn't believe it; I might have a chance to win an actual script from the last show. Couldn't wait to buy my raffle tickets.

VW/CK gave a most memorable performance reading poetry, Doing a hilarious scene from AW as it was written and then as it finally was taped, reading letters from fans that were at times touching, funny and a little weird. They even did a small bit about the cancellation of AW where they answered a few questions about the reason for the cancellation with the written statement that was given at the time...It was so funny and sadly so true, it just didn't make any sense as to why the show was being cancelled. They poked fun of the PTB and their youth campaign. It was 90 minutes of pure bliss for me as a 35-year fan of the show. VW/CK looked wonderful and younger and thinner then they did on TV. VW is tiny in stature; she reminded me of a ballet dancer, very lithe and flowing in her moves, so graceful and such kindness in her eyes.

CK, well let me tell you he is more handsome in person, and has such a Monty Python type of humor as my daughter says. I love his sense of the dramatic. The theater had a reception to meet the stars afterwards, which I'm disappointed to say I was unable to attend. Then it was time for the raffle. I hurried up front and bought my tickets, found a seat and waited for the drawing to begin. I sat next to another couple who actually won a packet of autographed pictures of some of the cast members of AW, we talked for awhile and I found out they were big fans of AW and didn't know about CSAW so I told them about the web site and what we were trying to achieve. Then they announced that they were now going to auction off the two AW June 25th scripts, I was so disappointed as I didn't bring my checkbook or credit card and only had about $30.00 dollars on me. (Probably just as well, The rent is due and I might have been tempted to say to heck with the rent, I want "that" script.) I was so bummed about not being able to bid on the scripts that by the time the first script price was up to $100.00 I decided I couldn't take anymore and I left. I have no idea how much they eventually got for each script. Outside I also talked to a group of people who were talking about Soaps and how they are getting so unbelievable and inconsistent in their storylines and character history. They also were not aware of CSAW so I at least had a chance to let a few people hear about it and let them check it out.

Half way home I had a horrible thought, suppose after the auction VW/CK came out to talk to the fans and I wasn't there? I quickly left that thought behind, as there was little I could do about it at that point I hope they will be back in this area again soon to do Couplets or Love Letters...
