Eve Bunting
Children's Author Extraordinaire
Eve Bunting came to the United States from Ireland in 1960. She began writing for children in 1972, and has contributed over 150 books to our homes, schools, and libraries. "She has explored nearly every genre, from contemporary and historic realistic fiction, to fantasy, to poetry, to nonfiction; from picture books for the very young to novels for older adolescents; from pure humor to the most serious of life-themes. She is a writer who honors and reveres the most important and fundamental aspects of our lives. She honors life, living things, and being alive; she celebrates learning, sharing and caring, grief and joy, and the versatility and flexibility of language itself. We close each of Eve Bunting's books with a feeling of hope, and the knowledge that humans are fundamentally good creatures who care and share and laugh together and persist in spite of the difficulties. What better gift to the world than a hundred and more books that honor that one tiny spirit left in Pandora's box." (By Maragaret Yatesevitch Phinney (1997) in her article entitled Eve Bunting: A "Wonderful Happenstance": New Advocate 10(3), pp. 195-201).
