EXHIBIT: OIL PAINTERS OPEN INVITATIONAL
Opens March 4

The National Bank of South Carolina and The Sumter Gallery of Art announced the winners of the 19th annual Oil Painters Open Invitational competition at a private reception Sat night Mar 4th. This is a juried exhibit that travels the state under the auspices of the South Carolina State Museum. It originated at the Sumter Gallery of Art and is the only oil competition open to all South Carolina oil painters that gives statewide exposure to the artists. The exhiibit will remain in Sunter until April 2nd and is open to the public.
The juror for the show is Donald Keyes who is the Curator of Paintings at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia in Athens. Keyes had this to say,"I deeply appreciate well presented works, well- drawn forms, and beautifully colored objects. I guess I'm just old fashioned. But I also insist that there be more to the work than just good execution. I am excited by art that has a hook, speaks to me in new ways, surprises me, and has a strong conceptual basis.I found these qualities and more in the works from which I chooose the present exhibition."
This year five Sumter artists had their work chosen for the OPOI. Kim Schneider received an Honerable Mention for a work titles,"Magnolia".The other Sumter artists in the OPOI are Dennis Snell, Kati Levi, Rex Deaton, and John Funk.
