I   THOUGHT

By: Thon

I thought I held you,   like a prize
that never slips away.
Until I gazed into the sun
and lost you in the day.

I thought my hold on you was strong,
I doubted your own will.
Until you ran away from me
like water down the hill.

I thought I saw you in the night,
running through the dark.
I chased you till the rising sun
was greeted by the lark.

I thought I felt you touch my arm,
as gentle as the wind.
I turned too late, you were not there,
Nor ever came again.
