Black Birds

Life drains me
I do the best, I can
but it gets me no where

She asked if I knew
what it was like to be dead

Yes....
but I don’t know
what it’s like to alive

I carve strange questions in the sand
The tide washes them away
Unanswered

Desperation and violence is everywhere
Such anger and hatred
demands articulation

We are chocking on innuendo, lies
and propaganda
Point of views are absurd

The truth is not known
It hides deep in the tallest trees
like invisible black birds

Bury your shadow in a trunk
let it be covered with dust
and turn to rust

Half digested suspicion
coated in bile
Dissolves like bad medicine
beneath your tongue

You can stomach it, in time
at first it will scar you
like pieces of shredded glass
But you will learn to live with it
it may even serve you well

Although, the blood and smell
Of dead love can never
be completely washed away

Life is a slow agonizing process
where one learns to accept the unacceptable
Until one day they have lost all traces
of who they are and what they believe
