The ABC's to Breeding Mice BREEDING FEEDER MICE Warning! You may be a little "too" succesful with this. Necessary Supplies: 1 adult male mouse 2 adult female mice 2 ten gallon glass tank aspen or pine shavings dry dog food 2 small water bottles wire mesh top -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Setup Spread a two inch layer of wood shavings in one tank. Place rodent water bottle in tank. Drop food in a corner (no need for dish as all of food will be dispersed). This is the basic setup. Paper tissues and toilet paper funnels may also be placed in aquarium as nest material. Close the tank top with a wire mesh. (made for this purpose or window screen with weight on top) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mice When first purchasing the two female mice and one male mouse, they should all be placed in the same ten gallon tank. Within a month of initial introduction the male will likely have fertilized both females. When it first becomes visually apparent that the females are pregnant, place one of the two female mice in the second ten gallon tank. The male may be kept with either female throughout gestation and nursing. When mice are removed at desired age be certain to leave one mouse with each female to prevent disruption of her hormonal cycles. After offspring begin to become weaned remove the male from the female that it resided with and place it in the other female's tank. This insures a second dual pregnancy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maintenance Change wood shavings once per week and refill any bottles that become low on water supply. If you are breeding mice for a herp that eats adult sizes, make certain that you separate males and females in two different tanks and include a third tank for a mating pair.
