However, Onita ordered him to be a referee because of his size (5 ft 7 inch and 154 lbs). He couldn't give up his dream. He went over to Mexico and was trained by Ultimo Dragon (Yoshihiro Asai) at Toryumon Gym. He debuted as "Dragon Kid" at Arena Mexico in Mexico City on November 14, 1997.
Shawn worked as a special referee for FMW at Yokohama Arena in Japan on November 23. He met Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, and Raven there. Rumors that he would like to work in ECW began to spread immediately after he left Narita Airport. Will this rumor come true in the near future?
