For these ten years, the wrestling business has changed kaleidoscopically. As The Rock's father, "Soulman" Rocky Johnson, said, "Everything you see actually happens."

When Gen-ichiro Tenryu appeared and shook hands with Mrs. Motoko Baba (widow of the late Shohei "Giant" Baba), Toshiaki Kawada, Masanobu Fuchi, and Maunakea Mossman at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on July 2, all the feelings of love and hate were awakened. Tenryu jumped from All Japan Pro Wrestling to a new promotion in April 1990. Since then, he was never permitted to return by Mr. & Mrs. Baba.

However, the infamous Mrs. Baba was in death agony when Mitsuharu Misawa, who has had conflicts with Mrs. Baba, and 24 other wrestlers and 18 office workers left her All Japan Pro in the middle of July. On the other hand, Tenryu's contract with New Japan Pro expired in January, and he has worked for FMW as masked "Hayabusa" and faced LLPW's Shinobu Kamdori in a man vs. woman match recently, as if he didn't care about trifles.

This week's View From The Rising Sun (No. 84) will look back at the career of Tenryu from 1977-2000.
