Lola & Dex

Lola & Dexter

Two ex-miller Shih Tzus who should never be parted.

We were so unhappy at the mill, but now our foster mommy has us ready to face the world! Lola had eye surgery to remove a yucky eye and she's so much happier now. Dexie is a great little man with personality plus.

Lola & Dex

Our Featured Pet(s) of the Month are: Lola & Dexter & Jerry

These are just three of the wonderful dogs we have looking for forever homes with lots of love, food and attention-- kids have not been sniff tested, but they could be okay.

Jerry

Jerry

Peke-a-tude, Handsome, and personality plus

He's such a handsome boy with lots to talk about. He did have some surgery recently to remove some non-cancerous lumps from his back and he's recovering nicely. He's got such dark coloring its almost impossible to get a good picture!

ADOPTION

We are:

  • a rescue group that takes in surrendered dogs and dogs we rescue from impound.
  • We do occassionally take a dog to adoption days at petco in Bursnville on a Saturday. (If one will be taken, it will be listed in their bio. Dogs are usually adopted out of foster home, after applicant is approved to adopt the dog. When a dog is at petco, person/family must fill out adoption application, which is online or available there at petco.DO NOT EXPECT TO TAKE THE DOG HOME THAT DAY- as with our foster home adoptions we check references and do a home visit first. Rest Assured the dog you fell in love with at Petco will be placed on hold until the checks are complete THAN you will be notified. ALWAYS LEAVE your phone number on any correspondance with us and be aware some of us do not have long distance on our home phone, so you may have to accept a collect call from us.
  • A 501(c)(3) Federally Tax Exempt Organization and Non -Profit Tax Exempt Incorporated Organization in MN
  • A very small group of woman who foster Small breed dogs in our own homes. Dogs are NEVER housed in any barns AND we do NOT have a shelter for our resuced dogs. All of our dogs are in loving home environments so we can see how they act with people, other pets and house training.
  • Specialists in CHIHUAHUAS and SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS.
  • Individuals who find homes for small dogs. NO dogs are EVER kept in any barn. That is not where a dog should be ever!
  • Keep in mind that we are individuals donating our time, so do NOT EXPECT an immediate return e-mail or call. We Do not have the funds to have a voice mail so e-mail is the only way to get a hold of us. It can take 48hours to SEVEN DAYS for us to get back to you.
  • *** Please e-mail smalldogsmn@petml.com for more info***

We do not adopt out of state and rarely make an exception to our "30 mile outside the Twin Cities radius" rule!

You are:

  • A person or family within a 30 mile radius of Minneapolis, sometimes, a little farther.(This includes some of Western Wisconsin, provided you are within 30 miles!)
  • Someone willing to allow a home visit before adoption and after.
  • Financially able to care for a dog through out his/her life. If wanting to adopt for parent's, we MUST see the parent and family MUST be willing to care for dog, in event something happens to parent and they are unable to care for the dog (example if going into nursing home)
  • Someone with a fenced in yard or like means to contain.
  • Someone who wants an indoor dog without being kenneled ALL day.
  • Someone whose children ARE at least Elementary School age.
  • Someone who will accept a follow-up visit after adoption

The Dogs are:

  • Surrendered by owners to us, dog surrendered by animal control and impounds. We do NOT take in dogs from out-state**. We also do not take in dogs from other local rescue groups. And we ARE NOT obligated to release the outcome of an animal surrendered to our group.

**We are starting a program for Out-of-State, please click on the link for more information.**.

  • Strays turned over to us by local impound or owners.
  • Spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots, teeth cleaned if needed, (ONLY authorized by SDR and not per direction of the adopter) and micro-chipped, heartworm tested and any other vet care they need, (again ONLY authorized by SDR)
  • Dogs are vet checked and if they are any medical issue's, those are completely disclosed. Any pups that are adopted out are vet checked also and we follow the "Puppy Lemon" law in MN. If dog becomes ill during the first 7 days of adoption, the dog will be seen by one of OUR vets for treatment. If owner chooses to take dog to their vet, that bill is the adopters responsibility. We thank Dr. Carissa Williamson for her support with our mission and her assistance with our dogs. Also Hopkins Pet Hospital, and South St. Paul Animal Hospital, for their discounts.
