THE LOWDOWN: Following hot on the heels of the monster blockbuster Scream, IKWYDLS was a surprise hit in the fall of 1997. Based on the novel by Lois Duncan, the film received mixed reviews with critics such as "Entertainment Weekly" praising it highly. Though it was largely responsible for sending Ryan's star to new heights, the horror movie is his least favorite of all the films he has starred in. His own criticism is somewhat understandable since the film is hardly a classic of its genre. However, it is far superior to many other teen slasher films such as Urban Legend. In 1998 a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer creeped into theaters. Only Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprised their roles. The second installment was so bad it was embarassing. Audiences seemed to agree. Despite costing twice as much to make, it only grossed half what the original did at the box office. |
