Skeet's Led Zeppelin Page

Charlotte 1970

When Led Zeppelin came to the Charlotte Coliseum in 1970 they had recently released their "Led Zeppelin II" LP, and Whole Lotta Love was their only big hit. The coliseum was not sold out. I remember Robert Plant chastising the boisterous crowd with a curt "Why don't you be quiet and listen since you've paid your money?" during the slow, unfamiliar Since I've Been Loving You which they previewed from "Led Zeppelin III." I also remember Jimmy Page's amazing acoustic version of Black Mountain Side/White Summer and how genuinely pleased he was with the ovation he received at the end, which I fortunately caught on film. Most people seemed disappointed with their encore of Whole Lotta Love because it didn't feature the studio version's slide guitar lick.

Page acknowledges his ovation for Black Mountain Side/White Summer with a smile.
